Photography "The Garden and Cosmos 6" by Agnė Gintalaitė

Photography and montage. Limited edition artist giclée print on archival paper. This photomontage is constructed from individually photographed elements, later assembled into a single composition in post-production. About the project The theme of the project (photo montages and a video and audio installation) is the withdrawal from the art scene of the printmaker Alfreda Venslovaitė-Gintalienė, who was active in the 1980s. While arranging objects into collections, I am looking for connections that relate those objects to each other, and “organize” them accordingly. A network of somewhat animistic connections structures the entire microcosm of the art project. Connections are built by reflecting on preconceived stereotypes and systems of knowledge different imaginations. Scientific, artistic, magical, perceptual, or religion-based imagination builds different connections. Taken out of context and floating in a vacuum, objects begin to pull or push each other, thus creating new connections. In a series of photomontages, garden objects are taken out of context, and in a 20-minute audio and video recording, Alfreda leads a guided tour of her garden, talks about the plants, their uniqueness and beauty; however, on the screen the viewer sees only clouds and fragments of her graphic works. The garden becomes a projection in the viewer’s imagination. Thus, by not showing the actual garden, I am trying to restore my mother’s creative powers.
