Hello, I'm Iveta Šmidt.
I am a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, moving image, and spatial practice, informed by research-led processes. My work explores the subjective experience of time—how it is felt rather than measured—focusing on presence, flow, and the tension between lived experience and society’s impulse to control and optimise it. Through large-scale, expressive paintings, I channel the fleeting currents of everyday life and the textures of memory into vibrant, intuitive compositions. Painting sits at the core of my practice, functioning as both a visual and emotional register. Working primarily with acrylic and oil sticks, I balance fast, instinctive gestures with slower, more meditative mark-making, allowing each line to trace movement, attention, and duration. Rooted in the physicality of gesture, this exploration seeks to push perceptual boundaries, evoking contemplation on the dynamic relationship between the tangible and the abstract, and inviting the viewer to reflect on their own embodied experience of time.
